Piano

Knowing which piano pieces you love is one thing, but finding the right performer to bring them to life is another. In this post, I’ll share some of my favorite piano pieces as well as the pianists whose performances bring them to the next level.

  1. Bach - Well Tempered Clavier

The winner is Sviatoslav Richter in the 1970 recording for RCA. Below are my favorite preludes and fugues from Book 1. They combine rythmical perfection and maximum emotion. I like Bach played on piano rather than harpsichord.

2. Bach - The English Suites

3. Schubert - Four Impromptus Op. 90 D 899

4. Chopin - Nocturnes

5. Chopin - Preludes

6. Schubert - Fantaisie in F Minor

7. Beethoven - Complete Sonatas

8. Rachmaninov - Prelude in G Minor, Op. 23, No. 5

I like the 2018 live Berlin recording the best, and we're lucky enough to have it in video! To me this interpretation has the best tempo.
